Betty A. English was born a gift to the Covington family on August 13, 1950 to Joe and Marie Covington. She professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined Bethel A.M.E Church in Michigan City where she grew up knowing our Lord and Savior. She was always known as the life of the part. Making friends where ever she went. Betty Ann cherished her family. As a teenager, she was spoiled by her parents Marie and Joseph Covington that took her on yearly trips to New York, Florida and many other places. She was given a station wagon in her teenage years and found it not robbery to share with her cousins, giving them rides to the beach, skating, or just joy riding. She was full of love and joy for her family and would not hesitate ro offer whatever she had to share with them. Betty Ann had a heart of gold.
She met and married George W. English, Jr., and to this union two children were born. Thanks to her late mother Ruth, she loved taking care of her children. She also loved skating and camping. She began her career as a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend, Indiana for 12 years and later became a care taker for the Conway Children's Colony for over 30 years. She loved all candy. We loved to watch our mother with children. She cared for so many and loved them all. One of her most favorite sayings was "small minds talk about people. Average minds talk about places. Great minds talk about change."
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marie Covington; siblings, Lavada Bullock, Sinclair Bullock, Deborah Bullock, and James Bullock; aunts, Beatrice Jackson and Big Betty who she was fond of.
