Ellis' earthly temple is now resting in the care of Veasley Funeral Home. Revelations 21:4 says, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Ellis Maltbia.

Deacon Ellis Wilbur Maltbia, 85, of Conway, Arkansas, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025. He was born April 24, 1939, in Conway, Arkansas, a son of the late Baxter and Gladys Winston-Simpson-Maltbia.

On November 21, 1981, he was married to Dorothy Dianell McCray, and they enjoyed 43 years of marriage. Ellis was formerly a member of Mt. Sinai Church of God in Christ, but after his marriage he transferred his membership to the Christ Temple Holiness Church, where he was active as a deacon and a member of the Brotherhood and remained faithful until his health failed.


He graduated from Pine Street High School in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Armed Services, served for a total of 6 years, and was honorably discharged. He was an employee of Rock-Tenn Company for 31 years. He had been retired since September of 2001.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Baxter and Gladys Maltbia; three brothers - Edward (EC) Simpson and Melvin Maltbia of Chicago, Illinois, and Buford Maltbia of Springfield, Arkansas; and four sisters - Rozzi Simpson-Mosby of Detroit, Michigan, Harriet Maltbia of Chicago, Illinois, Lois Dean Simpson, and Ottie Maltbia of Conway, Arkansas.


He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 43 years - Dorothy Dianell McCray-Maltbia; two sons - Larry Piggee of Conway, Arkansas, and Curtis Agee of Fort Smith, Arkansas; two daughters - Paula McCray of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Jennifer McKee (Kyonil) of Conway, Arkansas; 1 sister - V. Jean Smith; and 2 brothers - Vern Maltbia (Lorine) and Larry Maltbia of Conway, Arkansas; 2 sisters-in-law - Martha McCray-Hood of Holley Springs, North Carolina, and Gladys Maltbia of Springfield, Arkansas; 1 cousin - Marie Thomas of Kansas City, Missouri; 2 uncles - Donald Wade Winston (Debra) of Sherwood, Arkansas, and Pastor Glen Winston (Eva) of Conway, Arkansas; 3 aunts - Leoma (Floyd) Burns of Little Rock, Arkansas, Pat Credit of Mayflower, Arkansas, Alberta Winston and Joyce (James) Stubbs of Conway, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.


Walk through visitation will be held for family and friends Friday, January 31, 2025 from 11:00am to 7:00pm at Veasley Funeral Home.


A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025, 1:00pm at Christ Temple Holiness Church, 868 Willow Street, Conway, Arkansas.


Committal service and final resting place will be held at Robinson Cemetery, Conway, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christ Temple Holiness Church Building Fund.
