In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Powell Family. Henrine's earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Henrine Powell.

Henrine Powell was born on June 10, 1945, in Vaughn, Mississippi. She was so special, God gifted her with two sets of parents: biological parents: Annie Lee “Sarah” and Henry Barton, Sr., along with her adopted parents: Rosa Lee and Emmite Barton, Sr.
She entered eternal rest on March 21, 2025. Henrine was preceded in death by her mothers: Annie Lee and Rosa Lee Barton; fathers: Henry Barton, Sr., and Emmite Barton, Sr., husband: Zeno Powell, Jr., and her significant other: David “Mac” Armstrong.
Henrine spent her childhood growing up in St. Louis, Missouri. As a young adult, she married Zeno Powell, Jr., and settled down in a small town called Gray Rock, Arkansas. She was a dedicated housewife and mother until her husband’s passing in 1980. After becoming a widow, Henrine was given a second chance at love and a career. She met and fell in love with David “Mac” Armstrong and settled down in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Henrine became a talented Seamstress and was employed at Mahar Manufacturing for ten (10) plus years. After retiring, she enjoyed her grandchildren and helping family and friends any way she could.
Henrine had a fearless and loving spirit. She loved to dance, travel, visit with family and friends, and spending time at the Casino. She not only raised her children, she helped to raise many of her siblings, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Henrine was fiercely loyal and continued to help everyone she could. She touched so many lives and will never be forgotten.
Henrine is survived by her four (4) daughters: Marcia and Zena Powell of Fort Smith, Arkansas. Alcina (Chadwick) Jones of Houston, Texas and Linda Okonkwo of Little Rock, Arkansas. Fifteen (15) grandchildren; twenty-three (23) great-grandchildren; eighteen (18) living siblings and their spouses: Robert Lee Barton of Houston, Texas; Percy Lee (Yvonne) Barton of Pearl, Mississippi; Henry Jr. (Rilla) Frizell, Roosevelt (Elaine), Albert, Johnny, Billy, Vincent, Carrie and Thadia Barton, and Lula James (Brown) Morton all of Vaughn, Mississippi; Susie Mae Barton, Emmite (Harlene) Barton Jr., Emma Harrington, Barbara (Tony) Martin, and JoAnne (Tony) Phipps all of St. Louis, Missouri; and Queen Ester (Robert) Alexander of Hammond, Indiana.
Along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends who will forever miss her.
Walk through visitation for family and friends will be Thursday April 3, 2025; 11:00am to 6:00pm Rowell-Parish Mortuary Chapel 611 North 9th St., Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.
Celebration of life service will be Friday April 4, 2025, 11:00am New Covenant International Christian Center 4400 North N St., Fort Smith, Arkansas 72904.
Committal and final resting place: Fort Smith National Cemetery 522 Garland Avenue Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.
