In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Young family. Kathy’s earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Ms. Kathy Young.

Kathy Muriel Young was March 16, 1958, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Bennie Mae Ware, of Fort Smith, and Joseph Young of Wagoner, Oklahoma. The couple met in Wichita, Kansas, where each had gone to acquire employment. Kathy lived with her maternal grandparents, the late Ben and Muriel Ware, until the age of three. She then went to live with her mother and stepfather, James Gunn in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Kathy is a product of the Milwaukee Public School System, graduating from James Madison Senior High School in 1976. She attended Howard University in Washington D.C., where she met Ronald L. Raglan. They married during the summer f 1979 in Fort Smith at Mallalieu United Methodist Church, where her grandmother was an active member. Ronald received a scholarship to Boston University Medical School where he received a Doctor of Radiology. Kathy graduated from the University of Massachusetts. Kathy and Ronald were married for 19 years.


Kathy relocated to Georgia, where she lived for more than 20 years. She loved to travel and enjoyed jazz. One of her favorite artists was Peter White.


In 2020, a tumor was found on her spine. After a three-year battle with cancer, Kathy departed this world, Saturday, May 6, 2023, at The Blossoms Fort Smith Rehab and Nursing Center.


Kathy leaves to mourn her passing her mother, Bennie M. Gunn, her Sister Laurie A. Gunn, and many relatives and friends.


Celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023, 11:00am at Rowell-Parish Mortuary.


Committal service and final resting place will be held at Oak Cemetery, Fort Smith, Arkansas.
