In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Jones family. Shirley’s earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Ms. Shirley Jones.

Shirley Ann Jones was a blessing from God on Friday, October 13, 1939 to the late Altorlee and Ernestine (Wilkerson-Thomas) Stokes, Sr. in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. She was called to take her eternal rest on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from Fort Smith, Arkansas. She is also preceded in death by a daughter, Regina Jones; a brother, Altorlee Stokes, Jr. and two sisters, Fannie Stokes and Patsy West.
Shirley was educated in the Sallisaw Public School System. She was the first African-American to graduate from Sallisaw High School in 1958. She continued her education at Okmulgee Tech where she graduated with an Associate Degree in business. For many years she worked as the accountant and secretary at Accurate Fire Equipment. After retirement, she spent a lot of her time at the library, because she loved to read and was big supporter of education.
Shirley married Joe Jones, Sr. and this union was blessed with six children, Joe, Jr., Karen, Tony, Shawn, Paul, and Regina. She later met and shared two daughters with Albert Milton, Karla and Kolette. She was truly loved and very proud of being enriched with grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She cherished her family and was always happy to see everyone come to family gatherings. She will be greatly missed by all who crossed paths with her in life.
Shirley will always be remembered and cherished by her four sons, Joe M. Jones, Jr., Antonio L. Jones, Shawn E. Jones all of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Paul R. Jones of Muskogee, Oklahoma; three daughters, Karen J. Jones. Karla C. Auguste, and Kolette C. Jones all of Fort Smith, Arkansas two sisters, Francis V. Medearis and Geraldine Stokes both of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, many other family members, and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rowell-Parish Mortuary 611 North 9th Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.
Graveside Service will be held Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 4 p.m. at the Sallisaw City Cemetery 1270 West Houser Avenue Sallisaw, Oklahoma 74955.
